The Kenya Wildlife Service(KWS) has finally yielded to pressure from the Governor to compensate all pending cases of wildlife conflict.

The Governor today hammered an agreement with KWS to compensate at least 30 deaths and several others on permanent injuries.

In a marathon consultative meeting ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday, Mr Lenku this evening, met a high powered KWS delegation led by Deputy Director Michael Kipkeu and Assistant Director in charge of Southern Region, Daniel Onsembe.

President Kenyatta while on a visit to open a clinkerlization plant at Simba Cement in Kajiado East yesterday instructed the Governor to convene a meeting with KWS and deal with the compensation matter once and for all.

And this evening, a tense marathon meeting was held with the Governor insisting KWS must fulfil its part of the bargain if it wanted a cease-fire on wildlife conflict.

Mr Kipkeu has confirmed the wildlife compensation process will start immediately.

“Death is compensated with Sh 5 million while permanent disability attracts Sh 3 million,” said Mr Kipkeu.

He added, ” There are also hundreds of cases of destruction of property and crop..The lowest amount is Sh200,000.”

KWS will be compensating about 13,000 cases across the country, with Kajiado leading the park of the most affected hotspots followed by Narok, Laikipia, Samburu, Isiolo, Turkana, Tana River, Lamu counties.

Our investigations from reliable documents held by KWS reveal that it owes Kajiado County families at least Sh 400 million in death claims.
