SWEDEN’S MEGA PROJECT ON KAJIADO’S SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT.

Kajiado County Government has revived a waste management project that was on the blink of being discontinued by Swedish donors.

The project experienced a lull in the run up to last year’s election after its financiers contemplated to pull out of the program citing uncertain political moments.

Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho together with County Secretary Francis Ole Sakuda and Environment Chief Officer James Sankale among others, visited sweden and got the project back on track after Umea City’s Mayor Margaretta Ronngaren, signed a new commitment on the project.

The project is meant to build capacity on solid and waste water management with a view to set up a mega recycling plant in Kajiado after three years.

“We are happy we have been shown the kind of recycling plants we can have in Kajiado. They range from an investment of Ksh 300Million to Ksh 10 Billion.We shall choose the relevant one to us after completing a master plan whose preparation has started” said the deputy.

The programme will focus on how waste from Kajiado urban centers can be recycled at a central point and produce gas and electricity.

Sweden is one of the countries with the best technology in solid and waste water management. In fact, they import waste from neighbouring countries to produce power and gas which are beyond the country’s needs.

To cement the new deal, a high powered Swedish team will visit Kajiado County in October for a progress evaluation.
