Lele Primary School Benefits from Shamba System Project Under FLLoCA
Lele Primary School in Matapato North, Kajiado, is making remarkable progress under the Shamba System Project, supported by the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Program(FLLoCA), Kenya.
Now 90% complete, the project is already transforming the school environment and improving the lives of over 300 students by enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The project has achieved key milestones, including the successful planting of fruit trees, vegetables and beans. A secure farm fence has been completed, and a water storage tank has been installed, ensuring a reliable water supply for irrigation. These developments reflect the project’s commitment to sustainability and practical agricultural solutions.
During the field visit to assess the progress, the delegation included the CECM for Water Services and Environment, Mr. Michael Semera, Chief Officer for Environment, Mr. James Ngugi, Director of Environment, Mr. John Kanini, and other county officials. Their presence shows the county government’s dedication to empowering local schools and fostering climate resilience through locally led initiatives.
As the project approaches its final stage, it is already equipping students with valuable agricultural skills, improving their nutrition, and fostering environmental stewardship. Lele Primary School stands as a shining example of how locally led initiatives can create lasting, positive change in communities.
