LANDMARK AGREEMENT: SIGNING CEREMONY FOR KAJIADO’S WATER SUPPLY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT
On February 17th, 2023, a momentous contract signing ceremony took place at the esteemed Prideinn Hotel Mombasa, marking a crucial step forward in meeting the water needs of Kajiado Town residents. The contract signing was presided over by Mr. Willis Ombai, Chief Executive Officer of the Water Services Trust Fund and Ms. Grace Saitoti, Chief Officer Water Services, representing Kajiado County.
This ambitious project encompasses several vital components which include an 11 km raising main, upgrading essential infrastructure to ensure efficient water distribution across the town, two Major Storage Tanks: including one with a capacity of 225,000 liters at Olosuyian and another holding 150,000 liters at Railways to enhance water storage capacity.Other critical components include a 26 km New Pipeline and reticulations which will ensure water access to individual plots and residences throughout Kajiado town, alleviating long-standing water scarcity. There will also be water kiosks in Majengo, establishing accessible water points to enhance convenience for residents.
The project will primarily utilize water from the Olosuyian boreholes, providing a sustainable and reliable water supply. With a commitment to swift progress, the project is scheduled for completion within just 3 months, ensuring rapid relief to the water challenges faced by Kajiado town.This transformative initiative has received generous support from the Water Services Trust Fund, with funding from the EU totaling Ksh50 million. The County Government of Kajiado, demonstrating their commitment through a counter fund contribution of Ksh21 million.This project will mark a significant turning point for Kajiado town, which has long grappled with water scarcity. The implementation of these essential upgrades promises to usher in a new era of prosperity and well-being the Kajiado community, addressing a fundamental necessity that has been lacking for too long, said Mr. Ombai.Speaking during the ceremony, Grace Saitoti said, “we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders involved for their collaboration and support in realizing this life-changing project. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter future for Kajiado town”.
