ACUMEN DT Sacco Society Ltd meets County Government of Kajiado

The CEC Member for Gender, Co-operatives, Culture, Tourism and Wildlife, Janet Sereu, together with her Chief Officer, Joshua Mepukori, hosted senior officials of Acumen DT Sacco, one of the fastest growing Saccos in Kajiado North.

The Saccos team was led by Chairman Wainaina Kiganya and comprised of the CEO, Moses Mathu, and Secretary, Benjamin Nduati.

Ms Sereu said, “As a Department, we are ready to empower all our Saccos in order to see our community rising from poverty and help themselves.”

The Sacco which is based in Ongata Rongai in kajiado North, was formed 16 years ago.It has a membership of 2,557 with an asset base of Sh
450M and members deposits amounting to 350M.

Its Catchment areas include Kajiado, Nairobi, Machakos Kiambu and the diaspora of South Africa,Canada,America and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

During National Ushirika day adjudication in 2023 ,Acumen DT Sacco society won four trophies that include:

1. Best Managed Saccos DT
2. Best in Credit Saccos DT community Sacco
3. Best in deposit management

Ms. sereu promised the support of the county Government.she also added that the department will encourage benchmarking to embrace the principle of cooperation among cooperatives to enable the already established cooperatives mentor the young and growing cooperatives .Our aim is to develop a vibrant cooperative movement in kajiado county

KAJIADO JOINS THE COUNTRY IN REVITALIZING EAST AFRICAN TOURISM

Kenya’s Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS), Dr. Alfred Mutua has said tourist arrivals for the entire East African region are below the potential.

Dr Mutua said arrivals will remain dismal if no tangible effort is made for a joint radical shift in marketing strategy for the East African countries.

“In the heart of Africa, where wildlife roams free and landscapes enchanting, we find ourselves facing a a challenge of declining tourist arrival numbers. Our tourism numbers are dismal, and it’s time for us to re-examine our approach, ” said the CS.

Kajiado’s CEC Member for Tourism ,Wildlife, Gender and Cooperatives, Janet Sereu, has embraced the challenge and said that Kajiado will lead in harnessing the opportunities that accrue from the local vibrant culture and wildlife treasures.

” These treasures remain hidden to the world hence its high time to unveil the wonders of East Africa to the global stage, ” said Sereu.

The CEC Member emphasized the need for Kajiado,Narok and Samburu Economic Block in coming together to rethink their tourism marketing strategies.

Ms Sereu made her remarks during the closing ceremony of the 3rd East African Regional Tourism Expo (EARTE) and the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE), at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre ( KICC).

The three counties of Kajiado, Narok and Samburu Economic Block will, going forward, be using one stand to exhibit their goods.

“We are also working together as an economic block to strengthen our relationship in working together to explore our treasures, ” said Sereu.

Sereu led the county team that included her Chief Officer, Joshua Mepukori.

CEC-M for Gender, Cooperatives, Culture, Tourism & Wildlife, Janet Sereu, chairing a gender sector working group consultative meeting who’s main Agenda was a new thematic area i.eMALE ENGAGEMENT IN POLICY AND INCLUSION OF THE BOY CHILD.The sector work group saw the growing need to have the boy child brought on board, so as to address issues facing them as well as have male Engagement in fighting GBVs such as domestic violence, FGM etc.

“It’s closer home now !

We have concluded our last public participation with the community and stakeholders of the Amboseli ecosystem as we unveiled the inter-governmental technical transition committee on the transfer of Amboseli National Park to the County Government of Kajiado.

Grateful to Tourism,Wildlife and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Dr Alfred Mutua, my colleague governors, H.E Patrick Ntutu ( Narok), H.E Jonathan Lelelit ( Samburu), PSs John Olooltua(Tourism) Sylvia Museiya(Wildlife) and the elected leaders in Kajiado for gracing the event.

We have categorically stated that we shall not entertain forces that would want to slow down the process.

We are determined to fully implement the presidential Decree to the letter.

We are united in the resolve to accelerate the transition so that the Maa Nation can start to benefit from this special resource.

MISS TOURISM KAJIADO COUNTY 2018 AUDITIONS

The first lady invites young ladies of aged between 20 and 27 years old who happen to be a residents of Kajiado County for at least 10 years for the Miss Tourism Kajiado County Auditions.

The event will take place on 15th and 16th September from 8am to 5pm at the Maasai Technical Training Institute(MTTI),Kajiado Town.
