GOVERNOR LENKU UNVEILS THE KAJIADO COUNTY NATURAL RESOURCES NETWORK STRATEGIC PLAN.

Governor Joseph Ole Lenku unveiled the Kajiado County Natural Resource Network (KCNRN) strategic plan in a colourful ceremony held at Kimana in Kajiado south sub-county.

The initiative is comprising of 30 registered county-based civil society organizations. Founded in 2022, KCNRN is an umbrella network championing community-led sustainable resource management, fostering governance, advancing gender mainstreaming, advocating for equity, and managing wildlife and habitats.

This strong partnership is geared towards bringing all players together to ensure we are on the same page in making our towns livable, habitable and more conducive to conduct business, the Governor said.

At the same time, the Governor presided over the official pass-out parade of the Mazingira Unit, comprising of 110 conservation officers who underwent specialized training in natural resource conservation. The specialized training was made possible through the WWF-Kenya Southern Kenya Programmes. Mazingira unit is made up of county staff from the County Inspectorate, Public Health and sanitation, and Environment Officers among others. Its job is to ensure that urban, peri-urban areas and human settlements are inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Speaking during the pass-out parade the Governor said, “we are determined to capitalize on the synergy we have to give an opportunity to everyone to play their role in environmental conservation and protection of our water sources”.

The two events coincided with the unveiling of the Entarara Forest Management Agreement between the Kenya Forest Service, the County Government of Kajiado, and the Entarara Community Forest Association, funded under our International Climate Initiative (IKI)-Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) Loitokitok Project.
