The 51 seater bus is the second to be bought for the campus by the World Bank which sponsors the enrolled community nursing program in the campus and seven others.
While handing over the bus, Board Chairman Prof. Philip Kaloki assured the students that the management of the College would get additional classroom space and improve infrastructure at the Campus.
CEO Prof. Kiptoo urged the students to maintain high levels of discipline at all times and to become ambassadors of the College.
“This bus will make transport to your clinical areas easier enabling you to get the requisite practical experience to be able to serve Kenyans,” he added.
Oloitokitok Sub-county referral Hospital administrator Ms. Catherine lauded the students from the campus for an excellent job during their placement at the hospital and further commended them for being part of efforts to improve the face of the Hospital.
Kajiado County Director of Health Dr. Ezekiel Kapkoni represented the Health CEC during the event.
The team from KMTC that accompanied the Director and Chairman to the event comprised of Board Member Mr. Mithamo Muchiri, Corporation Secretary Dr. Miriam Muthoka and Intergovernmental Relations Manager Dr. Leah Bii.

A polio vaccination campaign targeting 150,000 children in Kajiado County has been launched today.
During the five day campaign, children under five years will be vaccinated against the crippling and potentially deadly, infectious disease.
Speaking during the launch of the mass immunization exercise in Kajiado town today Governor Joseph Ole Lenku said his government was ready to facilitate efforts towards a healthy society in line with the universal health care coverage outlined in the big four development agenda of the Jubilee administration.
“The bulk of the County’s budget for the next financial year has been allocated to the Health docket to promote a healthy and proactive society,” he said.
Lenku said he was committed to ensure that the citizens of the county access affordable healthcare through such initiatives as the “mbuzi moja Afya moja” campaign which encourages the predominantly pastoralist residents to take up health insurance by selling one goat for an equivalent of a yearly premium per family.
“As your Governor I will continue to take the lead with the support of other partners in making sure that Kajiado moves towards attaining a more healthy society” he added.
Speaking at the same forum, Martin Moshisho, the Deputy Governor asked stakeholders in the health ministry to demystify the polio virus to the residents who still believe it’s a curse.
“Polio is preventable. The vaccine is safe and I urge all the parents and guardians with children under five years of age to bring them out for vaccination,” he advised.
The CECM in charge of Health, Esther Somoire said the vaccination campaign is a supplementary move aimed at boosting the immunity of children adding that
Kajiado County had been earmarked as a high risk county due to its proximity to Nairobi where the first cases of the polio outbreak were reported.
“The campaign will be conducted through house-to-house visits by vaccination teams who will administer Oral Polio Vaccination to children under five,” she said.
Jackson Kioko, director of medical services at the Ministry of Health, said the immunization campaign comes after a recent alert through the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) that brought to the ministry of Health’s attention reports of the polio virus in Nairobi County’s sewerage system.
He added that it is regrettable that there is still a large number of parents in Kenya who hide polio aggrieved children from the eyes of the society adding that such children can still utilize their talents and grow up to be responsible citizens.
“Polio is preventable but if the child has already been struck by the virus do not hide them let them be given vaccines and nurture them to be good citizens of the society,” said Kioko.
Agnes Leshomo a mother who attended the launch was relieved to learn that polio is preventable and thanked the government for its effort to rid the county of the virus.
“In our community there are families who hide their children who have been maimed by polio. It is high time they knew polio is not a curse,” she said
Also present at the launch were the First Lady Edna Lenku, Health Development Partners among other county and National government Leaders.

Residents of Olkeri, Keekonyokie and parts of Nkaimurunya ward have finally benefited from a Level Three Hospital.
The Matasia Health Centre was launched today, several months after it opened doors to patients without being fully complete due to public demand.
Governor Joseph Ole Lenku and his Health CEC member, Esther Somoire, led Matasia’s Community in welcoming the County’s newest health facility.
The residents were full of joy and several of them narrated the ordeal they had endured while seeking health services in hospitals far away in Ngong and Ongata Rongai.
The hospital’s importance to the local community is indicated by the 8,000 patients it has treated since November last year.
According to the Health Centre’s register, the hospital has also treated 4,000 children while immunizing 30 children every day.
It also handles about 30 Family planning clients and about 30 Ante Natal Care mothers a day.
Governor Lenku said the County will continue constructing the remaining infrastructure buildings as well as equipping the hospital with the necessary equipment.
” We shall increase the nurses from the current four. We shall also build a maternity in due course, ” said Governor Lenku.
The Governor was accompanied by area MCA Peter Gitau, Moses saoyo kusero, James Waichanguru Ndirangu ( Nkaimurunya), Mwathi Pere ( Ongata Rongai) and nominated MCAs Ngogoyo Onesmus, Hon Mario Sandra Pepeon and Lucy Mathenge.

First lady Edna Lenku was privileged to take part in a one-day free medical camp aimed at screening and treating Children with Autism and Celebralpalsy at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Nkaimurunya ward.

In Kajiado North, the Ngong Sub-County Hospital has a physiotherapist available to help in children cases of cerebral palsy. The data at Kajiado County of treated cases of Autism stands at (14) and Celebralpalsy (25) children. This only confirms the fear that most parents have hidden their kids at home.

They were able to register over 250 children brought by parents to access treatment and this is only in one sub-county. Going forward, the County Government will reach out to all SubCounties through the Department of Health to give the much needed care to the children.

The camp was being facilitated by a team of medical experts from Washington DC, USA. The first lady was joined by Medical Services, Public Health and Sanitation CECM Hon. Esther Somoire, Mrs. Mpaayei, nominated MCA Hon Wachuka Mathenge and Mrs. Waishanguru.

The County Government of Kajiado is committed to achieving Universal Health Coverage through the elaborate manifesto and the subsequent implementation of programs being undertaken by the government.

H.E Joseph Ole Lenku welcomed the move to assign Kajiado at least two out of the 100 Cuban Medical Specialists set to arrive in the country on 28th May following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the Governor signed together with other Governors in Nairobi today.

The doctors with different areas of specialization will be deployed to the Counties in the coming month and are expected to remain in the County for the next years working with the existing medical teams.

This memorandum was signed in the presence of the Health Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki and led by the Council of Governors (CoG) Vice Chairperson Anne Waiguru.

“I am glad that this comes in the background of the recently launched NHIF mass registration in our County that sets the stage to achieving Our CIDP plan of Universal Health that is in line with my manifesto pledge of strengthened preventive care at community health services” the Governor said.

The Health CS confirmed that her Ministry is also pursuing collaboration in research with the Cuban Public Health Ministry in the areas of HIV vaccine development and Hepatitis Vaccines as well as an on-course training of 1000 nurses and clinical officers in family health as well as malaria vector.

The MOU signed also obligates the Ministry of Health to ensure that salaries are paid on time; latest by 10th of every month.

Later in the year the County hopes to nominate one medical doctor to undertake the post-graduate training in family medicine in Cuba in addition to releasing them to undertake post-graduate training as part of the deal.

In attendance was the County Secretary Francis Sakuda and Honorable Esther Somoire CECM in charge of Heath of whom they had accompanied H.E the Governor.

H.E the Governor was in Kitengela Sub-County Hospital today to oversee The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) handover medical equipment’s to the institution. H.E applauded their efforts in boosting medical care in the County and urged them to continue with their unwavering partnership with the County Government by venturing into other areas of need in the County.

Towards achieving the CIDP plan of Universal Health Coverage H.E the Governor encouraged residents to take up NHIF cards whose mass registration was launched at Ngatataek Health Center. This is in line with the Governors manifesto pledge of strengthening preventive health care at community health services.

Accordingly, The Governor informed the residents that medical boards have been inaugurated to take charge of management of health services in all the major hospitals in the County. These boards will articulate all the concerns raised by residents to improve healthcare provision at grassroots level.

The County Government is committed to improve the road network within the radii of our hospitals to ensure that the general population served at these health facilities and beyond are adequately taken care of.

Governor Lenku rolls out mass NHIF listing; upgrades Ng’atataek Dispensary:

Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has launched a mass registration drive for the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) health scheme.

NHIF’s national and local officials and several Health Sector Stakeholders, joined the Governor at the upgraded Ng’atataek Health Centre for the launch of the County’s Universal Health Cover policy.

The mass registration exercise seeks to provide affordable, accessible and sustainable medical cover to all residents of the County.

The scheme is expected to offer quality healthcare in the wake of rising medical bills that has seen many families ruined economically by run way hospital bills and related expenses.

For example, it will foot bills for both outpatient and inpatient services including those related to chronic diseases such as cancer and kidney ailments.

“Days when people organized harambee to offset huge medical bills will soon come to an end; we now have medical covers,” said the Governor.

He tasked the administrative heads through chiefs to sensitize the locals on the importance of the NHIF medical insurance so that they can take advantage of the affordable services offered.

Statistics by NHIF show that only 167,134 residents in Kajiado County were actively paying the NHIF membership fees.

Kajiado County NHIF Coordinator Alfred Ng’etich said the County had only 89 disabled people registered with NHIF while only 3,695 residents above 70 years were enjoying the services of the scheme.

“We have 4,022 vulnerable residents in our subsidized health scheme. A further 73,568 are insured from the informal sector,” said Mr. Ng’etich.

The Governor assured the residents of his commitment in realizing his campaign pledge of affordable universal healthcare through supporting initiatives such as the NHIF scheme and equipping of health facilities.

Present at the launch included the Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho, Health CEC Member Esther Somoire and the Chairman of the County Assembly’s Health Committee Moses Saoyo Kusero.
