2ND ARID AND SEMI ARID LANDS PREPARATIONS

Together with Devolution & ASALs CS Eugene Wamalwa, H.E the Governor have launched preparations to host the 2nd Arid & Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) conference to be held at Amboseli National Park on September 10th ~ 12th 2019.

On behalf of the County H.E the Governor welcomes all Kenyans and our donor partners to fully support this beautiful event. Twenty-nine counties will participate. The theme of this year’s conference is “Consolidating ASALs for development posterity.”

“As a county, we are glad for the confidence the national government has shown in partnering with us to host this great event. I urge all residents, investors and stakeholders to take advantage no the thousands of Kenyans and development partners who will come visiting” said the H.E the Governor.

County Government of Kajiado is ready to showcase its beautiful culture, and explore economic opportunities that remain unexploited in this region.

COUNTY INSPECTORATE SERVICE PASS OUT

Together with GSU Commandant, Douglas Kanja, H.E the Governor presided over The Pass Out parade of County enforcement officers who were specially trained by GSU officers at the Magadi Kenya Police College.

“We want our officers to improve their relationship with members of the public by serving them humanely and with utmost courtesy. We shall not tolerate harassment of the public and, by the same token, we shall not entertain members of the public who will block our law enforcement officers from carrying out their duties within the law” the Governor said during the event.

H.E the Governor was accompanied by CEC member for Public Service Francis Sakuda, Chief Officer for ICT Jackson Matanta, and Director in charge of Inspectorate Moses Birisha among other County officials.

KAJIADO SHINES AT DEVOLUTION CONFERENCE

Kajiado County’s booth has been rated the most colorful and authentic at the ongoing Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County.

The four-booth stand draped in the red Maa colors beat Kakamega’s five-booth stand as well as Makueni’s 2-booth stand in a rating conducted by a Sub Committee of the Organizing Committee.

The Stand attracted hundreds of devolution stakeholders as early as 9am with at least five governors visiting the Stand.

The conference attendees were particularly mesmerized by the new real time Geographical Information System (GIS) by the Lands Department.

By a click of a button, the GIS is able to give exact information about all parcels of land In Kajiado County-starting with physical location, acreage, ownership status and history of previous owners.

The other most attractive booth was the Mbuzi Moja, Afya Bora Programme one where the concept of “One goat for One Healthy Family”, was lauded as the most innovative platform to promote Universal Health Care Coverage among pastoralist communities.

Following the recognition, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku was all smiles.

“We are humbled by the special mention of our flagship programmes as some of the most transformative and impact to local communities,” said Governor Lenku.

Head of the County’s Delegation to Kirinyaga, Leah S.Moiko said the planning had taken more than two months to ensure Kajiado showcased the best of its achievements.

COUNTY GOVERNMENT TO FOCUS SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS THIS YEAR

Kajiado County has prioritized social development in the next fiscal year according to the 2019 County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) . The paper which is aligned with other county policies among them the 2018 – 2022 County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) and the Annual Development Plan (ADP) 2019 seeks to lay the emphasis on food security and improved nutrition as well as ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all residents of Kajiado County.

Speaking during a 2019 County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) Public Participation Forum at   Maasai Technical Training Institute, the Chief Officer in-charge of Treasury Maurice Kaaka said ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all together with Infrastructural development will have an effect of supporting economic growth and supporting value addition to increase income.“As a county we aim to lay the emphasis on food security and improved nutrition because we all know a healthy population equals a developed County, “he added.

His sentiments were echoed by outgoing CECm Finance and County Treasury Michael Semera who said the county continually maintains a balanced budget through its spending keeping a track of the proposed development programmes and projects.“The County’s Infrastructural development will be key in supporting economic growth as well as promotion of value addition to increase income,”he noted.

The Kajiado County Fiscal Strategy Paper (CFSP) is the County’s Government’s strategy document for the budget and provides the link between the overall policies and budget implementation. It highlights the strategic development objectives and priorities and how they shall be implemented through specific programmes.  Its preparation is stipulated in line with Sec 117 of the PFMA, 2012 and its Regulations 2015.

AMBOSELI SAFARI FESTIVAL LAUNCH

1ST Annual Amboseli Safari Festival was officially launched by H.E Governor Joseph Ole Lenku at an event attended by sponsors of this year festival, dignitaries and members of the press.

This year’s event is about a charity cycling competition from Namanga to Amboseli Meshenani gate. Its aim is to improve housing standards among the rural Maasai communities from Kajiado County through Eco–Manyatta housing, an initiative of first lady Kajiado County.

Speaking during the event, Kajiado County First Lady H.E Edna Lenku thanked all the participants of the event for their commitment as it is an inspiration to the course that began today. She added that “As the First Lady of Kajiado County, I champion a THREE Point Agenda in the areas of Education Mentorship, Health Education and Environmental Conservation.

The pursuit for the THREE POINT plan is out of the need to sensitize our people on alternative means of livelihood and to make them more aware of the means to adapt to a changing environment and new realities that have caught up with our cultural practices”. She added that “The Amboseli Safari Festival is an idea borne out of an aim to collectively mobilize resources and partner towards a course that is largely centered on the most current and urgent needs of the people of this County and that is housing.

A mother who has spent years cooking with firewood, persevered the smoke and used paraffin lambs all her life will have the rare opportunity of living in a modern Eco Manyatta because you registered to cycle.A young man in the remotest villages of this county with no employment will have a chance of making some money out of his own sweat by making bricks to be used in building the Eco Manyatta.

On the other hand Governor Lenku also thanked all sponsors who heeded the call to support the first Lady in her project and invited everyone to Amboseli on 8th December 2018.

Jonah Orumoi managing director Tourism Finance Corporation who spoke during the event on behalf of corporate sponsors.”Tourism is one of the fastest growing economic sectors in Kenya contributing significantly to our GDP growth while boosting the country’s foreign exchange earning” he said. He added that “it is indeed another great moment to join other corporates as we support Amboseli Safari Festival to promote local tourism especially Amboseli National park as well as placing Kajiado County on international map.

This year’s event will officially start on 8th December 2018 with flagging off cyclists from Namanga shell petrol station at 8:00 am. There shall be other field activities during the day including javelin, spear shooting, and culmination of the event with a whole evening traditional music festival including goat eating with morans and campaign.

NAMANGA ONE STOP BORDER POST

H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Tanzanian counterpart. H.E President John Magufuli visited Namanga border point to launch the Namanga One Stop Border Post (OSBP). The OSBP will facilitate ease of movement for goods and people between the two nations. The Namanga One Stop Border Post will be manned by customs and immigration officials from both Kenya and Tanzania. The OSBP aims at enhancing the Economic, Social and Political integration of the East African Community #NamangaOSBP

This will enhance movement of goods and people and boost economic and social enterprises. Kajiado County will be a big beneficiary of this new development and it expects fair trading practices that are beneficial to citizens of both countries.

The County Government affirmative mission to uplift the disadvantaged in our society.

The County Government represented by H.E the Deputy Governor was humbled to launch and distribute assistive devices worth more than Ksh 10 Million to Persons Living with severe Disability in our County. Speaking during the launch H.E the Deputy Governor applauded the new partnership between the County Government and Partners for Care, an NGO based in Kenya for supporting this initiative. Wheel chairs, sewing machines, cooler boxes and pairs of clutches were among the items distributed.

The County Government is asking residents with disability needs to inform the Gender and Social Services Department so as to enable the County Government seek similar partnerships to help them out. Our clarion call remains Disability is not inability.

KAJIADO GRABS THE RIGHTS TO HOST 29 ASAL COUNTIES IN 2019

Kajiado County has earned another right after the National Government and other stakeholders selected it to host the 2019 ASAL Conference.

The Conference brings together County leaderships from 29 Counties that have been classified as either Arid or Semi-Arid; Ministry of Devolution and ASALS; Experts from top diplomatic circles and international NGOs among other development partners.

The announcement was made during this year’s Conference which is taking place in Malindi, Kilifi County.

The Conference was opened yesterday by Deputy President William Ruto. In attendance were Devolution and ASALS Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa while US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec led other envoys among them those from the European Union.

Today, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku welcomed the hosting rights and declared that the conference will be held in the Amboseli Plains.”We feel honored for the recognition to hold this big event. It is a critical endorsement to our County’s strategic place as the Home of Culture and as a pastoral paradise in Kenya, ” said Governor Lenku.The Governor also said the County will host the event at Amboseli in Kajiado South to enable the guests experience the full beauty of the spectacular Maasai Plains*

The conference seeks to explore unexploited opportunities and areas of strategic partnership to achieve economic empowerment in the ASALS especially among pastoralist communities.

Among the areas of interest are minerals; mechanized irrigation for food security; meat industry value addition; magical tourist destinations and culture.

Validation of Plots within Kajiado South and East

Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya, County Governments Act (2012), the Physical Planning Act (Cap 286),the Urban Areas and Cities Act (2011) and other relevant statutes, the County Government of Kajiado is currently updating its records regarding plot ownership in urban areas within its jurisdiction through a validation exercise.
