Water projects that give reliable services to communities and have adopted plausible strategies to improve sustainability will be awarded by the County Government.

A total of 27 water projects in both rural and urban areas will be recognized on Friday, November 9, at Galaxy Resort in Kitengela. The function will be officiated by Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.A number of stakeholders in the water sector such as the World Vision, Oxfam and Davis & Shirtliff are among those who will be in attendance. The Awards which were arrived at after a thorough audit of observance of sustainable and strategic corporate governance in the water projects have been classified into fifteen categories.

The topmost award will go to the Best Managed Water Projects in both rural and urban areas. There will also be the prize for the Most Innovative Water Project as well as the Most Improved Water Services Provider.

Other awards include Most Promising Water Project, Best Water Project Operator in addition to the Water Project Leadership of the Year which will go to Water Project Chairmen who have demonstrated outstanding leadership that steered their water projects to reliability.

Kajiado Water and Irrigation CEC Member Florence Waiganjo said the Awards are part of the County Government’s strategy to promote sound management of water entities.“We have a Strategic Plan to achieve a 60 per cent Water Access coverage from the current 35 per cent. We can only get this by ensuring the little water we have is managed in the best way possible, “said Ms. Waiganjo.

The CECM added that the annual event is also meant to engage with water sector players on the possible areas of collaboration to push access up. “The budget allocated to water is not always enough to address all our water needs. To hasten the realization of water in majority of households, we need partners,” said Waiganjo
