Parents at Olgirra,Kajiado South sub-county, have been urged to abandon all inadequate traditions leading to the abandonment of school by their children. Moranism being the leading cause of school dropouts in the area according to the school administration has lead not only to a decrease in number of male pupils in upper primary,but poor performance in National Examinations too.

Speaking at Olgirra Primary school after launching two classrooms constructed by the county government, Kajiado County Deputy Governor, Paul Ntiati said it is very unfortunate that pupils are leaving school for such traditions. The Deputy Governor urged the parents and pupils to embrace education saying real moranism is found in education and in good performance.

Ntiati also said the county government has so far constructed over 200 classrooms across the county and urged the parents to make use of the modern facilities being put in place by the county government. The Deputy Governor said their government is determined to kick out illiteracy in the county.

Olgirra head teacher Mrs. Magdalene Mbae said some of the male pupils drop out on reaching class seven to become Morans. Mbae added that upon follow ups on the students and attempts to bring them back to school most end up performing badly in exams.

Speaking at the same function Kajiado South Mp Katoo Ole Metito urged the pupils and teachers to put in more effort saying it is unfortunate some high schools in the area cannot take  from primary schools they share a compound due to poor performance.

The County Executive Committee Member -Education Richard Parsitau also speaking during the launch said the county government has also put up polytechnics to create opportunities for people to acquire skill that encourage self-employment.

The Governor of Kajiado County Dr. David Nkedianye yesterday opened a new dormitory at Mashuruu secondary school built by his government.

The school which has an enrollment of about 330 boys last year got a mean score of 4.5 and a new dormitory after a fire tragedy that burnt down another dorm.

The governor who was once the deputy of the school in 1999 told the students to aim higher in their studies.

“For better results to come from this school, you must maintain discipline and aim for the best. The ladder of success is not crowded up there. There is always room for everyone who works hard.” Said Nkedianye

The county boss said his government is allocating bursary funds to many students to ease the burden for the parents.

“We are allocating bursary to many students and during the last financial year we gave this school ksh.619, 000 to ease the burden for parents and the number of absentees in school because of school fees. “Said Nkedianye

The governor urged the students to get good grades that will take them to the top universities in the country like Nairobi, Kenyatta, Daystar and may other.

The school head teacher promised a mean score of 5 in this year final exams.

COUNTY GOVERNMENT TO BUILD A MODERN ECDE SCHOOL AND A CAR PARK BAY IN NGONG TOWN.

H.E The Governor laying the foundation for the construction of the ECDE classrooms in Ngong Town

The county Government of Kajiado will build a modern ECDE class at Ngong township primary

school after the Governor, Dr. David Nkedianye officially laid the foundation during a ground

breaking ceremony in Ngong township primary school.

The modern ECDE School will have a baby class, nursery, pre- unit, store and a staffroom and

will help improve the performance of the school in years to come according to the governor.

“We want our children to have a good foundation and my government will continue working

hard to ensure our children get the basic foundation of life. We want them to be future leaders

and work hard to come and give back to the community.” Said Nkedianye.

The Governor also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a car park bay in the streets of

Ngong. He said the county want Ngong to be a good organize town to attract tourists.

“Ngong town has been disorganize for a long time, we want this town to  be a well organized, with a

parking lot, this will help ease traffic jam and congestion in the town.” Said the governor.

He added that his government will continue doing development projects in Kajiado north and

the entire county.

GOVERNOR LAUNCHES UWEZO ANNUAL REPORT AT MAASAI CULTURAL RESORT IN KAJIADO CENTRAL.

The Governor of Kajiado County Dr. David Nkedianye today launched the uwezo annual learning assessment report at Maasai cultural resort in Kajiado central to know the fate of education in the county.

Uwezo which has been accessing reports for over five years is now an initiative, a citizen movement based approach to accessing literacy and numeracy level of children from the age of 6-16 years across Kajiado County.

The survey process and findings aims to make the parents, students, local community and wananchi at large aware of the actual level of children capabilities in reading, writing and arithmetic which is used to improve the level of education across the county.

According to the report read by Dr. Emmanuel Manyasa the county manager of uwezo, Kajiado county is ranked 2nd nationally with 54% of literacy level better than the national average of 32%.

Kajiado County was top in Kiswahili reading where 6 out of 10 class 3 pupils were able to read a class 2 work. Kajiado north is the best performing district in the county where 2 out of 10 children in class one could do class work.

Speaking during the launch the Governor Dr. David Nkedianye said the report was good but it needed detailed explanation.

“The report was good but I want them to cover the five sub- counties of Kajiado, rural vs urban education level, private vs public schools performance and girls vs boys because that could have been a good sample.” Said the governor

The governor also said education need to be devolved because they are making hard for the county to employ ECD teacher.

“We want education to be devolved because we are getting hard time even building classrooms and employing teachers need approval from Nairobi which is taking a lot of time.”

KNUT executive secretary Samuel Sankale ole Tonkei said they disagree with the report.

“We disagree with the report because we were not even involve in the research or survey, we don’t even know who did the research and the criteria they use.” Said Tonkei

Another teacher Stephen Kipelian said the level of education in the report doesn’t reflect on the rural schools.

“In our schools in rural areas, there are pupils scoring 96 marks or a mean score of 120.its very bad and we need to improve the education sector and involve us in the report.

Kajiado county level of education is far above the national average and with the support of all stake holders and the county government education will improve in school that are not performing well.

GOVERNOR VOWS TO HELP KILONITO PRIMARY SCHOOL

“Kilonito primary school must improve in performance “. These were the words from the governor of Kajiado County His Excellency Dr. David Nkedienye to the parents, teachers and pupils of kilonito primary school in loodokilani ward.
The school which a few years back appeared in the country newspapers as one of the three worst performing schools in the country has not been performing well for several years now and the governor has now come to its rescue.
Speaking during the education day in the school, the governor argued all the concern people to come together with the support of his government to help the school.
“This is not a time to blame anybody, let come together and help our children because we cannot accept a whole generation to be destroyed this way. This area need doctors, teachers, lawyers and we must produce ours because nobody will accept to come to a place where people are not serious, and let’s produce our own first.” Said the governor
Several issues were discussed that led to poor performance in the school, which last year had a mean score of 165.81, parents are criticized for neglecting the school and their is no good working relationship with them and the teachers. Parents were also warn against early marriages for their kids.
The governor added that the head teachers should be given a chance to run the management of the school.
“The head teacher is the one to run the school and I give him full responsibility in this school, he will hire PA teachers of his choice but those who are qualified and improve performance in this school while you parents give him your support.” Said the governor
The head teacher Mr. Daniel Seet promise to do his best.
“Governor we will improve the performance of this school and with the full support of the parents and your government, kilonito will rise up.” Said Mr. Seet
The governor also brought revision books for standard 7 and 8 pupils and promised to return in a month time to access the school until he sees some improvement. He was accompanied by the county executive member for public service Jeremiah Nairowoua and other county officials.

Governor Nkedienye Addressing Parents and Teacher of Elang’ata Wuas Primary School, he urged them to shun early marriages of young girls.

County campaigns on early marriage intensify within Kajiado County as a big number of girls continue to drop out of school for early marriages.
In most primary schools in rural areas girls are few with only a few managing to sit for KCPE owing to early pregnancy forming a big number of minor mothers.
As early as 11 years these school girls have left school not only to be married but to be married as second, third to fourth wives.
Kajiado West sub county is the most affected considering the harsh condition and high poverty index level.
It’s estimated in each every family there is a minor married of at a tender age or impregnated at a tender age.
To arrest the alarming problem, kajiado county government in collaboration with local NGOs are moving in earnest to stop the vice.
The county government is spearheading anti early marriages campaigns through seminars, talks with role models and bursaries to a girl child and support to save houses all over the county. Parents are also being sensitized on dangers of early marriages.
Kajiado David Nkedianye urge girls to shun early marriages and focus on education saying his government is educated to ensure girls finish their studies for the county prosperity.
A week ago the county government of kajiado disbursed ksh 65M bursary to needy children in the county.

H.E The Governor Dr Davind Nkedianye handing of the cheque to the ministry of education when he launched the second phase of bursary worth 65 million at the county headquarters.

The Governor of Kajiado County H.E Dr. David Nkedianye yesterday launched the second phase of bursary allocation to students from the county in university, colleges and secondary schools.
The bursary which totals up to 65 million was given to 7,038 students from the county and was distributed as follows; 15 million for universities, 10 million for colleges and 40 million for secondary schools. each student receiving ksh 10,000.
Speaking during the handing of the cheque to the ministry of education, the governor argued the teachers and parents to ensure they lift the level of education in the county
“We want to follow up the rate of enrollment in our schools all over the county and follow up the performance of the students in the county. We want people to study well and come and help this county”
On indiscipline cases, the head of the county added that it is paramount
“We have seen several cases of indiscipline cases in our schools, students burning buildings in school. That is very bad. We want our students to be responsible people and learn to negotiate with their teachers, and if they don’t agree let them go home. We will not built schools to be burnt by irresponsible students “ said the governor.
Also present were the deputy governor, county executive incharge of education and other county officials.

Meanwhile Parents are urged not to over rely on bursary funds and instead struggle with all means possible at least to ensure that they contribute something little if not all. Addressing both parents, teachers and students of Iloodariak Secondary school, School Principal Mr Sylvista Letoluoi,has revealed to the public that, “parents of Iloodariak Secondary School has attendance of bringing their children to school without fees in the claim they are waiting for the bursary think this is not fair,and i would like to urge them to realise the importance of Education and the sacrifice they ought to make in support of their children “said the School Principal.
Meanwhile on the other hand,PTA Chairman Mr Nankaris Ole Saidimu has as well urge parents to discipline their children as Maasai.”Maasai parents has attendance of not discipline their children after they are circumcised and that is why we get a number of students failing during examinations, they turn to be very ignorant, therefore leading to teachers not being able to help them: said Ole Saidimu.
