Anti-FGM and county officials in Dalalekutuk in Kajiado Central

Maasai elders in Dalalekutuk in Kajiado Central yesterday blessed more than 500 girls who chose the Alternative Rite of Passage (ARP) instead of the traditional Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The girls aged 9 to 15 years who went through the alternative rite of passage graduated as young boys embarked on them saying they are ready to marry girls who are not cut.

The ceremony that was preside by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Youth and Gender Affair Sicilia Kariuki was attended by local leaders led by H.E Kajiado County Deputy Governor Paul Ntiati, the chairperson of the National Anti-FGM Board Lenah Jebii Kilimo, CECM and C.O for ICT, Gender and Social services Hon Parsitau and John Njoroge respectively, CECM for Education Jeremiah Nairowua and a number of MCAs among other county officials.

The Cs noted the neglect of the outlawed practice was a testimony of the milestones being achieved in the fight against the FGM.

The Deputy Governor Hon. Paul Ntiati assured the crowd that as a county government they are ready to support and they have been supporting to end the cut in the county. This comes after they come up with a policy against FGM that suits the county. The policy is now in second stage in the county assembly. The policy will protect young girls from the act of trauma.  Lauding the pillars in the community who have been spearheading the cut for confessing and put down their tools and stop the act.

The young boys present in the occasion demonstrated that they will not wed the circumcised girls. In his sentiment Nickson Malei the chairman for the young boys said “We will not wed the cut girls, they are passed by time hence we encourage them to work harder in education and aim for degrees to better their life’s.”

The cultural female circumcise-rs, whom are the cultural decision-makers burn down their tools after the event as a sign of ending the act in the community.

Kajiado county government will partner with UMEA from Sweden to equip the new library that is currently under construction in Kajiado town.
The library which is one of the flagship project in Kajiado central, upon completion it will contain a ground floor that will accommodate 320 people, first floor will contain 160 people, second floor 120 people and will also have break out terrace. (more…)

Kajiado county Governor H.E Dr. David Nkedianye has opened two ECDE classrooms at Nalepo primary school in Ildamat ward Kajiado Central.
The school was started in 2002 and has 30 children with no TSC teacher.
The governor urged parents to bring their children to school in order to have education and avoid long distance traveling.” You need to utilize this classes we are building. Bring your children to these schools. We are tired of people saying we Maasai are way behind in education.”
The area MCA Hon. Joseph Mutunkei embarked the Governor as he voiced to parents not to take their children to private schools and leave ECDE classes empty for it will be a waste of resources. The MCA further noted that in development matters people must avoid political difference and embrace on development matters for the sake of the community and a better future.
Zipporah kosen a parent of the school thanked the county government for building such high quality classes.

The classroom that was recently opened at Imanyat primary school in Dalalekutuk ward.

Kajiado county government today opened a new ECDE class at Imanyat primary school in Dalalekutuk ward.
The school was started in 2002 by the former MP Joseph Nkaiserry and has an enrollment of 58 pupils and runs up to class five.
The county government built the ECDE to help improve education in the rural area.
Speaking during the official opening, Governor Nkedianye said his government is working hard to improve education in the whole county.
” we have built over 300 classes all over the county. We are doing this so that our county gets a better future with many doctors, lawyers, teachers etc”.

The governor later visited Olobelbel secondary and pelewa primary school and emphasized on the importance of education.

Kajiado county government has diverted water to grazing areas of Olgulului, Lenkisim and Entonet Ward. The water that was passing to Orboloti was not useful to the residents and above all it constituted to most roads to be impassable.

Kajiado Governor Dr.David Nkedianye accompanied by his deputy Paul Ntiati said his government is ensuring that the locals are not disturbed by the water hence his government has taken a step further in ensuring that the water is diverted into grazing areas.

There are several projects currently on progress in the area such as the Olgulului and Noochokuti Primary school among others projects.

Present county officials included CECM for lands Ali Letura, Area MCA Benjamin Kool among others.

KAJIADO COUNTY HALF MARATHON

Daniel Muindi and faith Chepng’etich are the winners of Kajiado county half marathon held in Kajiado central.
The event is organized by the county government and aims to nurture the many talents in the county.
Daniel Muindi the winner of 21km who hails from Machakos said that although the weather was cold he managed to win the race.”The route was not bad although it was wet and a bit slippery. We started well and I maintained the pace until the last 500m when I went ahead and won.
I also thank the county government of Kajiado for organizing such races because they improve talents in the county. It’s rare to find such kind of an event in other counties.”

Kajiado Governor Dr David Nkedianye said his government is committed to nature talents in the county.
” we will continue to support our athletic so that we can have many professional representing Kajiado abroad. We are building more stadiums such as the Ngong stadium where there will be a conducive environment to train.”
The event was graced by world 1500m silver medalist Elijah Manangoi, Alex Sampao.
The 10km race was won by Lukas Suyianka who just finished his KCPE exam last Thursday.
The winner 21km bagged 80 thousand shillings in class.
The event is organized annually by the ministry of sports in the county with an aim to uplift the young talents in the community and help them become professional athletes.

Miss Tourism Kajiado Sation Parmuat is reaching out to the needy students in remote areas by providing them with lamps so that they can study at home.
Kimunyak primary school, erankau in Kajiado east benefited from 65 lamps.
A total of 1000 lamps will be distributed across the selected needy children and already 100 lamps have been issued out with 35 at Nalepo primary school in Dalalekut ward, and 65 at Kimunyak primary school at Erankau.
The lamps were issued out by miss tourism in partnership with East Africa Portland cement as part of their community social responsibility (CSR).
The Kajiado queen also continues planting trees to make Kajiado County a beautiful place and is urging well-wishers to help make Kajiado county flourish.

Kajiado County Deputy Governor H.E Paul Ntiati yesterday officially opened a rescued home, Hope beyond Transitional Center in Loitoktok, Kimana ward. Speaking during the function the deputy lauded the family of John and Dorcas for the initiative and vision for the sacrifices and effort they made to secure the future of young girls who are evading the cut and early marriages.
The deputy called on different stakeholders to join hands to ensure all children get their rights especially the girl child, who gets a lot of challenges and trauma when the cut is done. Outlining the challenges the governor said the biggest challenge in ending FGM has always been the fact that it is culturally entrenched, and has the backing of cultural leaders. Urging the community to come out to support the children experiencing such challenges and take a firm stand against FGM. “The laws of Kenya must be upheld. FGM must not be allowed, and we will see to it that anyone caught subjecting young girls to these practice is dealt with appropriately”.
He further noted that the county government is ready to partner with all stakeholders to end the practice of FGM in the county and the entire nation.
John Parit the initiator thanked the county government for the endless support they displayed to the needy children and preventing FGM. He urged the community to joins hands and help such children since children belong to everyone.
Dr. Josephine kulea one of the partners from Samburu county and Bishop David Bates from USA were in attendance.
