Olchorro village residents in kajiado south sub county benefited with a modern health facility expected to ensure locals have access to medical services after long time public hue and cry.

The modern ksh 7M olchorro dispensary has been put up by the county government in the interior of the maasai remote village where most locals live in abject poverty.

The dispensary has a mini maternity unit, in patient unit and pharmacy. Also doctor’s squatter has been set up to ensure the dispensary operate for 24 hours. The mini maternity unit can accommodate 10-15 patients

The county government has also put up modern toilet as an ideal example to the locals who most don’t have latrines in their homes exposing themselves to a health risk.

Jubilant natives lauded the project saying they have been walking for more than 20km in rough terrains to access medical care at Oloitokitok sub county hospital.

”we have really suffered but it seems our tribulations are over medical services has come to an end” said Ann Lesampu

Maasai women say as expectant mothers they shall now have a safe delivery in the dispensary and probably curb mother infant deaths during birth that is common in the area.

”we have always panicked when one of us get pregnant knowing it might be a death trap during birth as hospitals and few and far apart in the region but now we can afford a smile” said jubilant Helen Lempa

Speaking during the official opening the facility, Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye said his government is determined to provide accessible and affordable health services to all residents.

He added that in the last financial year his government spent ksh 1.4B on medical services. In the last two months the county government has employed 160 doctors posted all over the county.

‘‘My administration cannot afford to gamble with the health of residents and will always ensure the services are to the standard and accessible to all” said Nkedianye

Nkedianye urged the locals to develop a culture of digging and using toilets in their homestead. The county government has been sensitizing locals on usage of latrines all over the county.
